after a string of bizzare and brutal murders,our hero D.C.I Rhys Whitehorse has finally arrested "The Artpeice Murderer": Mark Slipper.during the interview Mark admits to all but one of the murders,
which confuses most of the police but not Whitehorse "Who knows better"
after the interview Whitehorse returns to the everyday or "humdrum" and the story moves to a short trial and then onto cardiff prision. in the prison Mark begins to brood and comes to an undisclosed conclusion, about the mystery of the victim he claims not to have killed
Rhy's returns to work after a break, where he finds the day to day unsatasfying and boring after the challages of the art peice case. Mark board with his captivity and after coming to the realization he has come to, makes an escape, which starts a nation-wide manhunt. not long after Marks escape the "Artpeice Murders" start up again in areas where Mark has been sighted. After Marks escape D.C.I Whitehorse is brought in on the case as an expert on Mark Slipper and leads the investigation to re-capture him.
During this time friends,family and work collegues of Whitehorse become the victims of the "Artpeice Murders" which begin to esculate over a short time. during this time mark is sighted close to the murder sites and with the m.o and sightings, they are naturally assumed to be Marks doing.after a few murders Whitehorse's D.S, Glyn Morgan goes missing and is assumed to be in the hands of Mark slipper, giving Whitehorse a short amount of time to find him.trying to claw together clues Whitehorse begins to run out of time.
In an a lock up garage in a particularly nasty council estate we find D.S Morgan bound,blindfolded and gagged on a peice of cardboard on the ground surrounded by urine and other stains he is fed and watered every few hours which is as far as his care goes. during this time Morgan begins to daydream and reflect on his life, the highs and lows of it the birth of his son, his divorce from his wife and wishing he'd had a better relationship with his parents, and convicing himself that Whitehorse who he idolizes will come and rescue him,cutting back to Whitehorse he starts claiming that he's getting close to Slipper and that his capture is only a matter of time.
Whitehorse gathering his evidence together claims to know where Morgan and Slipper are and plans his next move with the backing of his chief constable and the resources of the police force he plans a raid which turns out to reveal nothing, at this confidence in him is lost and he's taken off the case, Whitehorse protests and claims he can still track Slipper.Cut to Slipper and we see him standing over D.S Morgan until he hears a noise and hides behind some junk in the garage,
at which point Whitehorse enters and peels off the tape serving to gag Morgan
Whitehorse removes the gag and blindfold from Morgan who starts to thank Whitehorse for rescuing him when Whitehorse picks up a peice of wood and smash's him in the face and starts to explain how it was him who had killed Rosie Asquith, and had killed all those since Slippers release.claiming that the case had made him feel "alive" again and didn't want the murders to end,and it was an ideal oppitunity to rid himself of all the irritating people in his life. hearing this Slipper reveals himself....
